East Kilbride boxer David Jamieson is eager to get back into the ring

East Kilbride boxer David Jamieson admits he’s ‘like a kid at Christmas’ as he gears up for a ring return in October.

Jamieson was forced to pull out of an IBO Intercontinental title defence against Dec Spielman at the Hydro in May due to a dog bite on his hand.

Winning that fight could have led to a world title fight in the summer.

Instead, he’s back in the ring, preparing for a fight in October, which would be a “tune-up” to his defence towards the end of the year.

Westwood fighter Jamieson said: “The hand has healed up fine, no ligament or tendon damage, or anything permanent like that.

“It was a wee bit weak to start off with, because I hadn’t used it, but it’s absolutely fine.

“I’m just strengthening it up, getting back into the swing of it, and getting moving.

“We’re hoping to be out in October, which is probably a tune-up, and hopefully there will be a big end to the year, maybe before Christmas.

“It’s all geared up towards the title defence.

“I’m still sitting at 10th in Britain, so it hasn’t set me back.

“It’s maybe not moving at the pace I would have liked, but if we get the two fights in before the end of the year we’ll have made up that ground.

“It’s like the kid waking up and wanting their presents on Christmas Eve, but we will get there.

“It will come.”
