East Kilbride went two points clear at the top of the Lowland League table, and delighted boss Kevin Rutkiewicz insists they can only get better.
And the former Aberdeen and St Johnstone defender wants his side to put further distance between themselves and The Spartans when they clash at Ainslie Park today.
Kilby’s opponents are seventh in the table, eight points behind but with a game in hand, and Rutkiewicz wants his side to close them out further.
“They’ve got off to quite a strong start as well and they’re a team that I think will definitely be up and round about it,” he said.
“But it’s a chance for us to try and get a wee bit of distance between ourselves and them for now.
“They’ll see it exactly the opposite, they’ll be looking to shut that gap a wee bit, so I think it will be a typical game through at Ainslie Park.
“It will be very competitive, fast-paced, physical, and we’ll see how we come out of that one.
“We’ve scored goals and had a couple of clean sheets on the bounce as well, so the boys are brimming with confidence.
“I believe we can get better, I want us to get better. I know the boys want to get better, and that’s something we will always seek to do.
“But we’ve got confidence. If we keep giving our best, keep giving our all, then I think we’ll get a lot of positive results.
“It’s fine lines that decide games, and we’ve been on the good side of those lines so far, so hopefully that continues for a wee bit longer.”
Rutkiewicz says Kilby are heading into a “traffic jam” week, following up their 1-0 win over Bo’ness United on Saturday and Tuesday's penalty shootout defeat to Annan in the SPFL Trust Trophy with the Spartans clash and then the visit of East Stirling on Tuesday.
Rutkiewicz said: “Once again we find ourselves in the midst of a traffic jam football week.
“But if you ask any players at any club I think they would all rather be playing games than training.
“I think we will get better, but that’s probably the message that every manager in this league and in the country is talking about just now.
“These games aren’t going to be easy.
“We’ve just got to stay humble, keep our head down and keep working hard."
