In their statement, the PSNI said detectives “are appealing for information and witnesses following a report of a fire at a flat in the Grace Avenue area of east Belfast in the early hours of Sunday, May 8”.
They say the fire was reported just after midnight and officers attended, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service.
Detective Sergeant McCartan said: “Thankfully, no one was present in the flat at the time and no injuries were reported.
“At this stage, we are treating this as arson with intent to endanger life and would ask that anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, or who may have dashcam or other footage, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 4 of 8/5/22.”
The police added that people can submit a report online using their non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.
