An Irvine teenager is set to compete for the prestigious title of Miss Great Britain.
Sophie Garrick, who is studying primary teaching at the University of Glasgow and is a shift manager at her local McDonalds, will take part in the pageant finals on July 30 at the Broadcroft Hotel in Glasgow.
The Irvine teen always wanted to take part in events like Miss GB but felt "nervous". This year Sophie decided to take the jump and enter the competition as she believes it can open loads of doors to new opportunities.
Sophie told Ayrshire Live: "I felt very shocked when I found out that I was chosen to compete in the finals. I really didn’t expect to be picked for this. I am nervous, but I am actually very excited. I love getting dressed up and can’t wait to take part. My excitement outweighs the nerves.
"I’m also looking forward to making friends with the girls and taking part in all the events that Miss GB Glasgow holds."
As part of the pageant, Sophie has chosen to take part in the Big Fun Run on June 11 to help raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.
She said: "I love that Miss GB involves different events and as part of it, we are able to fundraise for charities. MacMillan Cancer Support has become really near to my heart as unfortunately my grandad has been diagnosed with lung cancer at the beginning of the year. I would love to support this charity to show the appreciation we have for them.
"As well as the Big Fun Run, I will also be looking for more events to participate and volunteer in. I’d love to see if anyone is looking for any helpers. I am always looking to help charities and help other members of the public out. "
The Miss GB Glasgow final is taking place on July 30 at the Broadcroft Hotel in Glasgow where Sophie will compete for the title with nine other girls. Having close links to Kilmarnock through her family, she will represent the East Ayrshire region in the big contest.
Sophie added: "I am hoping to win the title this year as I believe I am a confident and responsible individual. Being a student teacher has allowed me to work on these skills. I have always been a helpful girl looking to help out friends, or even people that may need extra support. I would love to take the crown but also I would be happy for any of the girls who are taking part."
