East Ayrshire Council elections 2022: Every candidate standing as campaign gets underway

East Ayrshire will decide its 32 councillors from 54 candidates at May's poll after the names of those standing for election were confirmed on Wednesday.

Voters will go to the polls on Thursday, May 5 to decide the make-up of the new administration.

East Ayrshire Council has been led by the SNP who have 17 hopefuls across the region's nine wards looking to be returned.

Scottish Labour (LAB) are standing 11 candidates with the Scottish Conservatives (CON) putting forward nine.

There are three Alba Party (ALBA) candidates and two Scottish Liberal Democrats (LD). The Green Party (GRE), The Scottish Libertarian Party (LIB) and The Rubbish Party (RP) are all represented by one candidate.

Meanwhile, there are seven candidates standing as independents (IND) and two – former Conservative councillor Ian Grant and David Shaw – with no description (–) listed.

For those who have not yet registered to vote, applications must reach the electoral registration officer (for Ayrshire) at 9 Wellington Square, Ayr, KA7 1HL by midnight on Monday, April 18.

Applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

This election also gives the right to vote to those who are aged 16 and 17 on election day, but they must be registered.

The deadline for postal vote applications is before 5pm on Tuesday, April 19 and before 5pm on Thursday, April 26 for proxy votes.

Voting will open at 7am on Thursday, May 5, with polling places closing at 10pm.

The electronic verification and counting of votes will be held the following day, Friday, May 6.
