A festival celebrating East and South East Asian food, cinema and culture is heading to Manchester in September. The event will happen at the Grub food and drink market on Red Bank, and will mark the third annual East and South East Asian Heritage Month.
Top food vendors, pop-up cinema, art workshops and even a gin and tonic masterclass will be among a host of activities going on on September 3. Deansgate favourite Rosa’s Thai,
Little Yellow Rice Co, Wong Dumplings, Jyoti’s Momo and Phat Rollz will be among those showcasing the best of East and South East Asian cuisine.

Meanwhile, East and South East Asian cinema exhibitor Milk Tea will curate a free film screening in Grub’s 108-seater cinema space. For kids, there will be a reading by children’s author Eva Wong Nava, who will also be running a workshop on how to make paper lanterns.
In the food and drink market and event space’s basement, there will be East Asian-inspired art workshops from Floating Art, while in the Hall area, there will be a gin and tonic-making masterclass with Tarsier Spirit.
This year’s ESEA Heritage Month has the theme of ‘Roots/Routes’, which according to the festival’s organisers will be ‘an exploration of cultural identity and belonging inviting people to delve into the narratives of family journeys and stories, celebrating the rich tapestry of experiences that contribute to our diverse and vibrant heritages’.
The first heritage month event was held by Britain’s East and Southeast Asian Network in 2021, and this year brings in non-profit organisations including Voice ESEA, the ESEA hate crime and incident reporting service On Your Side and social enterprise Be Inclusive Hospitality.
Tickets are on sale now at £8 (£4 for children over 5), all of which goes back to the work of Voice ESEA and On Your Side.
