An earthquake has hit Los Angeles just after the Oscars ceremony wrapped up.

According to a report from the United States Geological Survey, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake 15km below the earth’s surface struck the North Hollywood district of the city at 22:23 local time on 2 March.

Local broadcaster KABC said the effects were “felt in the San Fernando Valley and other parts of Los Angeles”, but there were no reports of significant damage or injuries. The Los Angeles Fire Department said it was “not entering earthquake mode”.

The USGS said the tremor was reported about 1.4 miles east-southeast of North Hollywood; 1.7 miles north of Universal City; 2.5 miles east-northeast of Studio City and 3 miles west-southwest of Burbank.

The earthquake struck just after the Oscars concluded; the evening was a resounding triumph for Anora, winner of five awards including best picture, best actress for Mikey Madison and best director for Sean Baker. Read all about film’s biggest night here.
