An earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitude on the Richter Scale hit the Andaman and Nicobar islands on Wednesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The mid range earthquake struck Andaman and Nicobar islands at around 6:09 am. The quake was situated at a depth of 10 kilometres, the National Centre for Seismology said.
This comes a day after an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter Scale shook Nicobar Islands region in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands is prone to frequent earthquakes. It is also not unusual for the islands to witness more than two-three quakes a day.
On April 1, a total of 20 earthquakes, all of which were of medium intensity, had struck the region.
