Earnings Preview: What To Expect From Welltower's Report

Headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, Welltower Inc. (WELL) is a premier real estate investment trust (REIT) specializing in healthcare infrastructure. With a market cap of $78.8 billion, Welltower plays a pivotal role in advancing healthcare delivery through a portfolio of high-quality properties, including senior housing, outpatient medical centers, and post-acute care facilities. The company is set to release its Q4 earnings after the market closes on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Ahead of the event, analysts expect Welltower to report an FFO of $1.12 per share, up 16.7% from $0.96 per share reported in the year-ago quarter. Moreover, the company has surpassed Wall Street’s FFO projections in each of the past four quarters. Its FFO of $1.11 per share for the last quarter surpassed the consensus estimate by 6.7%, driven by robust growth in its Senior Housing Operating portfolio and higher occupancy

For fiscal 2024, analysts expect Welltower to report an FFO per share of $4.30, up 18.1% from $3.64 in fiscal 2023. In fiscal 2025, its FFO per share is expected to grow 11.4% year-over-year to $4.79.

Welltower's shares have gained 41% over the past 52 weeks, outperforming the S&P 500 Index's ($SPX24.6% gain and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLRE4.6% returns during the same period.

Welltower's shares have outpaced the broader market and its peers, driven by robust demand, strategic acquisitions, and efficient management of its real estate assets. 

Additionally, the company released its Q3 earnings report on Oct. 28, and shares jumped 5.2% in the subsequent trading session. The company posted revenue of $2.06 billion, a 23.7% year-over-year increase, surpassing Wall Street’s $1.95 billion forecast. 

The consensus opinion on WELL stock is moderately optimistic, with an overall “Moderate Buy” rating. Of the 19 analysts covering the stock, 12 advise a “Strong Buy” rating, one suggests a “Moderate Buy,” and six indicate a “Hold.” 

WELL's average analyst price target is $146.89, indicating a potential upside of 14.1% from the current levels.
