Early morning passengers warn of Dublin Airport chaos as St Patrick’s weekend begins

Passengers at Dublin Airport were taking to Twitter this morning to hit out at the ‘outrageous queues everywhere’ as the St. Patrick’s weekend chaos begins.

Over the last few weeks, there has been widespread criticism for the backlog at the Airport that left some waiting up to two hours to make it through security.

Thousands of passengers are expected to come through the arrivals gates this weekend, and just as many departures are anticipated as people make the most of the four-day weekend.

A spokesperson for DAA warned during the week that “On Thursday and Friday, we’re expecting somewhere between 70,000 and 80,000 passengers each day, so it’s going to be a very busy weekend.”

This morning, those headed out on early flights were warning anyone travelling later today to come extra early, as queues were delaying some by two hours.

One angry customer took to Twitter and wrote: “Dublin Airport, why do you find it so hard to do the basics well?

“The queue to enter the departure gates this morning...you actually know the #of flights.

“Why can't you do basic organisation? Even fast track has a queue of 100 people!!”

A second said: “Stood in a queue for two hours at the airport this morning. It's outrageous. They're everywhere."

It seems it’s not just the queue for check-in and security that’s delaying people as one woman warned: “Never seen anything like the queues.

“At least 40 queuing for coffee. No sterling either. Cheltenham cleaned us out, she said.”

Another said: “Been a long time since I’ve seen so many queues for everything at Dublin Airport. Normal life is really back.”

Passengers are being asked to arrive at least two hours before any short-haul flights and to allow an extra 30 minutes if you’re leaving your car there.
