Eamonn Holmes sparked concern this week after suddenly disappearing mid-broadcast from his GB News breakfast show. Nearly three hours into the programme, the 65-year-old didn’t return to his seat, leaving co-host Ellie Costello to carry on solo. No explanation was given, and viewers were left wondering what had happened. One fan wrote: “Where did Eamonn disappear to this morning? Hope he’s alright.”
The veteran presenter has been open about his declining health, revealing he suffers from chronic back pain following a double hip replacement and surgery for three slipped discs. He’s admitted he can no longer walk or look after himself properly. It’s reached the point where friends and colleagues are seriously worried about how long he can keep up with the early morning routine, according to the Mirror.
A source told the Mail: “The talk of GB News last week was Eamonn vanishing. He is much loved there – but you look at him and you wonder how much longer he can do this for.” They added: “He looks so sad so much of the time. He looks like he’s in pain and it’s awful to watch.”
Eamonn is wheeled into the studio, straight onto the set, and then wheeled out again after the show. “It works,” the insider said, “but he looks terribly uncomfortable. You just hope he goes home and gets a really long sleep.”
This isn’t the first time he’s missed his show recently. He also skipped episodes in January and March, and those close to him are questioning whether the job is taking too much of a toll.
The worry comes on top of major personal changes in Eamonn’s life. Last year, he split from wife Ruth Langsford after 14 years of marriage. He’s since started a relationship with Katie Alexander, 43, a relationship counsellor who is 22 years his junior. The pair were spotted holidaying in Ibiza last year, with Eamonn using a mobility scooter to get around.
Katie is said to be a real support for him. A source told the Mail: “They do lovely things together despite Eamonn’s obvious mobility issues.” But they also admitted he’s “struggling” to truly enjoy life right now. “He really tries, but it’s a struggle, even with Katie at his side,” they said.
Eamonn hasn’t commented publicly about his sudden absence, but concern among fans and colleagues continues to grow.
