Eamonn Holmes says it's a 'good day' after Phillip Schofield leaves This Morning

Eamon Holmes has broken his silence following Phillip Schofield's This Morning exit.

The former ITV presenter, who hosted alongside Ruth Langsford until 2021, previously commented on the alleged feud between Phil and Holly's friendship, slamming them as them a "broken fit".

Speculations around the supposed rift has ultimately resulted in Schofield's "immediate" departure on Saturday. Holly will remain on the show with other members of the "This Morning" family until Phillip's replacement is named.

Now, the GB News host has broken his silence in a cryptic tweet that suggests he isn't upset by the news, as he called yesterday a "good day". Alongside the post, Eamonn uploaded a snap of his granddaughter Emilia kissing his cheek, the Mirror reports.

Writing to his followers, he said on Saturday: "Pappa got a smacker. Thank u Emilia. All in all that rounded off what turned out to be a good day".

Fans who thought the former This Morning presenter was hinting at Phillip's exit responded back to the Irish journalist. One follower wrote: "Ha ha Eamonn, I know you must be happy with the news".

Another added: "I see what you did there. Love it". "The photo & the comment very well worded," said a third.

A fourth wrote: "Fantastic pic and epic comment. karma." A fifth agreed as they shared: "Best day. Don’t seek revenge, let the rotten apples fall by themselves!"

The tweet comes as ITV's Phillip Schofield announced his exit from This Morning with immediate effect yesterday.

In a statement made on Saturday, May 20, Phil shared: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

"Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."
