Eamonn Holmes has revealed on Monday he was taken to hospital for unexpected treatment on his back.

The TV personality, who has been suffering with chronic back pain, lifted the lid on why he hadn’t been presenting GB News for the past week.

However, the 62-year-old star said he was looking forward to returning to his TV job next week.

He said in a statement: “Hi everyone. Many of you have been asking why I haven’t been presenting GB News for the past week.

“Unfortunately due to a reoccurrence of a long-term back condition, I’ve had to undergo some unexpected hospital treatment and am now following doctors’ orders by taking a short time off.

“However I’m looking forward to being back alongside Isabel, my Breakfast co-presenter and friend, next week. Even though I only joined GB News six months ago the whole team and our amazing audience have shown me immense support which has been greatly appreciated.

“I now just need some time with my family to heal and recuperate. See you soon, Eamonn.”

Many stars were among the well-wishers who posted beneath his Instagram post on Monday.

Among them, Emma Willis wrote: “Hope you start to feel better Eamonn. Sending you love x.”

Love Island host Laura Whitmore added: “Get better soon x.”

Previously, he has spoken candidly about living with a trapped sciatic nerve and the impact it has had on his relationship with his wife Ruth Langsford.

The star admitted his health woes have left him feeling “quite emasculated”.

At the start of this year, he told The Sun: “It’s been a difficult year. For months now I haven’t been able to walk, sometimes at all, and it has really taken its toll on everyone around me too... I had to stop driving and sold my car back to the dealer too, which felt quite emasculating.

“I can’t bend down to pick things up so Ruth ends up having to wait on me, and I know my sons particularly are a bit embarrassed by the way I move around.”
