Eamonn Holmes responds to Phillip Schofield's "delusional statement"

Eamonn Holmes has hit out at the latest comments by ex-This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield, who claimed those criticising him were guilty of nursing a grudge.

Schofield recently left his This Morning role as rumours of a rift between him and Holly Willoughby circulated, before news broke that Schofield had engaged in an affair with a younger colleague while working on the show.

The former presenter had denied the relationship initially to ITV bosses and his legal advisers.

In a story on Instagram on Monday morning, Phillip Schofield said: "Now I no longer work on This Morning I am free to say this. I hope you have noticed that it’s the same handful of people with a grudge against me or the show who seem to have the loudest voice.

"This Morning IS the best show to work on, with the best people. In all the years I worked there there was no toxicity. You can listen to those persistently loud voices if you like.

"But the thousands of guests over the years, thousands of staff and crew, hundreds of presenters and contributors all know, it IS a family of wonderful, talented, kind and hardworking people."

Eamonn Holmes is also a former presenter of This Morning and he criticised the content and timing of Schofield's post.

"Schofield has just put out a delusional statement," he tweeted.

"I'm reluctant to give the liar any more publicity but believe me Pip if u r looking for a fight , u have picked on the wrong person!".

In a statement following Phillip Schofield announcing his resignation, ITV said: "We are deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight by Phillip Schofield.

"The relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust. Philip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down.

"We accept his resignation from ITV and therefore can confirm that he will not be appearing on ITV as had previously been stated."
