Eamonn Holmes shared a proud moment on Sunday, posting a photo of himself standing without assistance despite his recent health challenges.
The 64-year-old, who recently disclosed his reliance on carers for “simple tasks”, uses a wheelchair due to severe back pain and is undergoing physiotherapy sessions.
In January, the broadcaster admitted that the reality might be he could never walk unaided again. However, his latest photo showed him dressed smartly and standing on his own, leaning against a door frame, marking progress in his rehabilitation.
He captioned the post: “Hard to stand up but next my aim is to walk. Off to a birthday party today. What about you?”
Holmes discussed his need for carers while speaking with Michelle, a care support worker, last week on his GB News show amid the General Election.
Michelle expressed her desire to invite Keir Starmer, Rishi Sunak, and Nigel Farage to spend a day with her at work to understand her role better.
“I'm not finishing at 6pm on a Friday afternoon. I'm working 60 hours a week for £12.50 an hour,” she said.
To which Holmes replied: “I just want to say - what you do, I have been basically disabled for a year and a half or so and I have to have a career to do the smallest simplest things and it's humiliating and humbling - but thank goodness that carers are available.”
In 2016, the presenter underwent double-hip replacement surgery after enduring years of acute pain. Two years later, he shared how he was struck with the shingles on his son Declan's wedding day.
Then in 2021, his chronic back pain began unexpectedly and was forced to use a walking stick as a result.
Holmes soon discovered the cause was three slipped discs that affected the movement of his right leg.
In September 2022, the former This Morning host took a break from his GB News show to undergo crucial back surgery for his chronic pain, which had started due to a dislocated pelvis leading to the slipped discs.
Despite undergoing surgery and physiotherapy, his mobility issues persisted, forcing him to rely on others for simple tasks, which he described as “soul-destroying”.
Just two weeks into his recovery, he fell down 18 stairs at his Weybridge home, hitting the stone floor and breaking his shoulder.
A year after his spinal surgery, he underwent a spine and neck stretching procedure in September 2023 after admitting he “couldn't walk”.
He explained: “I can't run, I can't walk, I can't do anything except watch TV and eat.
“I just got problems last year in my back, which I haven't recovered from. It's not good, it's not a good recipe I have to say.”
Aside from his health woes, Holmes has recently been battling heartbreak as he and wife Ruth Langsford announced their divorce last month after 13 years of marriage.
