Eamonn Holmes lashes out at 'delusional' Phillip Schofield in furious response to statement

Eamonn Holmes has slammed Phillip Schofield as "delusional" in a scathing response to his statement.

Phil parted ways with ITV this weekend after he admitted to lying to the broadcaster and his colleagues about an affair with a younger male colleague on This Morning. In a bombshell statement today, Phil slammed those who had claimed there was toxicity backstage at This Morning, accusing them on holding grudges.

Eamonn has since responded to the statement, calling Phil 'delusional' and said he had "picked on the wrong person" if he was "looking for a fight".

In a post on Twitter, Eamonn wrote: "Schofield has just put out a delusional statement.

"Like Holly he puts it on Insta Stories so if it goes wrong there is no record after 24 hrs. I'm reluctant to give the liar any more publicity but believe me Pip if u r looking for a fight , u have picked on the wrong person!"

In a statement posted earlier today, just 15 minutes before This Morning aired on ITV, Phillip released a statement via social media where he said he was "free" to speak out now he no longer worked on the show.

"Now I no longer work on @thismorning I am free to say this. I hope you have noticed that it’s the same handful of people with a grudge against me or the show who seem to have the loudest voice," he said.

Phillip quit the show last week, and has since left ITV (ITV)

"This Morning IS the best show to work on, with the best people. In all the years I worked there there was no toxicity. You can listen to those persistently loud voices if you like. But the thousands of guests over the years, thousands of staff and crew, hundreds of presenters and contributors all know, it IS a family of wonderful, talented, kind and hardworking people."

Phil’s confession about his affair has rocked ITV.

An ITV spokesperson said in a statement following his announcement: "We are deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight by Phillip Schofield. The relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust. Philip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down.

"We accept his resignation from ITV and therefore can confirm that he will not be appearing on ITV as had previously been stated."
