Eamonn Holmes in "awful pain" as he suffers fall after major surgery

Eamonn Holmes has been left in "awful pain" as he has suffered a fall after having major surgery on his back.

According to the Express, the North Belfast man 'tumbled downstairs' and fractured his shoulder while recovering at his home in Surrey.

Representatives for the presenter have said due to this, he had to undergo another operation.

The 62-year-old will now remain off TV for longer than he originally thought.

A representative for Eamonn told Express.co.uk: “As a consequence of being laid low by major surgery, Eamonn suffered a fall at home a couple of weeks ago and had to undergo another operation.

“He’s naturally gutted by the setback, but the good news is the surgery on his shoulder went well. He’s now receiving fantastic care and rest.

"Sadly it means Eamonn is likely to need a longer period off TV than he first thought in order to get himself better and heal."

The father-of-four previously explained how he 'desperately wants to get his life back'.

The spokesperson added: "But despite being in an awful lot of pain, he’s remaining positive and is looking forward to doing what he loves most and being back on TV and presenting on GB News just as soon as he can.

"Eamonn would like to say thank you for the wonderful care he has received from the NHS. He’d also like to thank everyone who has sent him get-well messages.

"Eamonn’s focus now is solely on resting, and getting better - which he is determined to do.”

The presenter had surgery on his back in October that had a '20% risk of going wrong' and was yet to know if it had been a success.

Over the weekend as the clocks went back, Eamonn had said: "An extra hour in bed? Have it back if it just means an extra hour of pain. Long night for many of us."
