Eamonn Holmes claims Phillip Schofield affair is a 'total cover-up by ITV bosses'

Eamonn Holmes has blasted his former employer ITV as he addressed Phillip Schofield's affair with a younger colleague on This Morning.

The GB News presenter, who previously hosted This Morning on Fridays with Ruth Langsford before being replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, claimed Phillip's affair had been "covered-up".

"It's an illusion, it's an illusion," he claimed as GB News presenter Dan Wootton asked: "Isn't it a cover-up?"

"It's a total cover-up. Those in authority had to know what was going on and they thought they would dodge a bullet with this, and they do constantly.

"With Schofield talking about 'those who speak out against him' namely me, Amanda Holden, [Dan Wootton], you'll be included in the toxicity, Dr Ranj...you simply think, 'No mate, you've had it all your way for far too long.'"

Ahead of the interview, Eamonn addressed a backlash on social media over his recent attacks on Phillip.

One angry fan commented: "Does Eamonn have a new book out soon? Or bitter after being binned off This Morning for a younger crew?"

Hitting back, Eamonn replied: "Just telling the truth in the face of a coercive controller."

Another viewer questioned: "So if you knew all about this, why did you just stand by all this time and do nothing? Just as complicit," to which Eamonn answered: "But I didn't know. I've never said I knew."

Eamonn later tweeted: "A lie unchallenged becomes the Truth ...... not on my watch it doesn't Pip. Tonight is for all my workmates over the years who were frightened and ignored by you and your controlling , coercive behaviour. All you who no one listened to. I'm here for you."

A spokesperson for Phillip declined to comment when contacted by the Mirror over Eamonn's accusations.

After the news of Phillip's affair was announced, ITV confirmed they had investigated "rumours of a relationship" between the former This Morning host and a younger colleague.

A spokesperson told the Mirror: "When rumours of a relationship between Phillip Schofield and an employee of ITV first began to circulate in early 2020 ITV investigated.

"Both parties were questioned and both categorically and repeatedly denied the rumours as did Phillip's then agency YMU.

"In addition, ITV spoke to a number of people who worked on This Morning and were not provided with, and did not find, any evidence of a relationship beyond hearsay and rumour.

"Phillip’s statement yesterday reveals that he lied to people at ITV, from senior management to fellow presenters, to YMU, to the media and to others over this relationship."
