Eamonn Holmes breaks silence after Phillip Schofield's This Morning exit announcement

GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has spoken out following the news that Phillip Schofield will be leaving ITV show's This Morning with immediate effect.

Eamonn, who previously presented the ITV show alongside wife Ruth Langsford, has previously made comments about the drama and 'feud' between Phil and Holly Willoughby.

Eamonn officially left This Morning two years ago as he and Ruth were replaced by Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond two years ago.

Now the broadcaster, who now fronts the breakfast show for GB News, tweeted calling today "a good day" as new of Phillip's exit broke and ITV confirmed the exit.

Eamonn tweeted following the news of Phillip's exit as he shared that today was "a good day" (@EamonnHolmes/twitter)

Sharing on his social media, Eamonn uploaded a snap of his granddaughter Emilia kissing his cheek as he told his followers: "Pappa got a smacker. Thank u Emilia. All in all that rounded off what turned out to be a good day".

Fans who thought the former This Morning presenter was hinting at Phillip's exit responded back to the Irish journalist. One follower wrote: "Ha ha Eamonn,I know you must be happy with the news".

Another added: "I see what you did there. Love it".

"the photo&the comment very well worded," said a third.

A fourth wrote: "Fantastic pic and epic comment. karma."

A fifth agreed as they shared: "Best day. Don’t seek revenge, let the rotten apples fall by themselves!"

The tweet comes as ITV's Phillip Schofield announced his exit from This Morning with immediate effect today (20 May).

In a statement, Phil shared: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

"Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."

Earlier this week Eamonn made comment about the ongoing feud between Phillip and Holly on his GB News show.

I think there should have been a special award for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for best actors," he said, referring to the TV BAFTAs that took place on Sunday night.

"They may or may not be together on the telly today but he's brought in lawyers, she's brought in a PR team. The public surely suss that there is no chemistry, that it is a broken fit between the two of them."

The former ITV star added: "This Morning does not depend on who presents it. It's an institution. It will carry on no matter who presents it. And anybody can check the viewing figures. There is no difference between whether they present it, or whenever anybody else does."
