Eamonn Brophy nears St Mirren exit as Ross County close in on loan deal for out of favour striker

Eamonn Brophy's spell at St Mirren looks to be coming to an end as he nears the exit door in Paisley.

The Scotland international joined the Buddies back in January 2021 and was seen as something of a marquee signing.

While he failed to score in the second half of his first season in the stripes, he went on to play more regularly last season and ended as the club's joint top goalscorer with eight strikes - all of which came away from home.

With the striker, who has remained popular with large parts of the Saints support, falling well down the pecking order under current boss Stephen Robinson, a move away from the SMiSA looked to be on the cards this transfer window.

Now it's being reported that Ross County have made a move to bring the forward on loan to the Highlands as they look to bolster their firepower and shoot their way up the Premiership table and escape the drop.

Speaking after St Mirren's Scottish Cup win against Dundee, Saints boss Stephen Robinson admitted he'd brought youngster Kieran Offord back early from his loan spell at Alloa Athletic in case one of his other forwards left before the end of the January transfer window.

He said: "We had to make a decision on Kieran by January 20. That was in his contract.

“In case one or two of our other strikers leave, we need that cover here."

It now appears that Brophy was the forward expected to depart, with the striker having never netted a single goal at the SMiSA Stadium during his two-year spell with the club.
