Eagles Week 16 rooting guide: Who should Philadelphia support?

The Eagles are home Monday afternoon for a must-win NFC East matchup against their hated rivals, the New York Giants.

A win for Philadelphia would keep Nick Sirianni’s team in line for an NFC East title and potential No. 2 seed in the conference based on what happens with San Francisco and Detroit.

The Eagles are currently the No. 5 seed, if they win out, they could land as high as No. 1 with a bye, or potentially settle for the No. 2 or No. 3 seed, putting the club on pace to host a home game at Lincoln Financial Field on Wild Card Weekend.

With the early Sunday games quickly approaching, we’re looking at Philadelphia’s Week 16 rooting guide.

FOX: Lions (10-4) vs. Vikings (7-7)

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson (18) catches a pass in the fourth quarter of a Week 15 NFL football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Cincinnati Bengals, Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Bengals won 27-24 in overtime.

Dallas is currently ahead of Philadelphia in the NFC East based on division record (4-1 to the Eagles’ 3-1).

The Eagles play two games against the Giants in the next three weeks, and if they win out, they’ll win the NFC East. With San Francisco in the drivers seat for the No. 1 overall seed, Philadelphia wants to secure the No. 2 seed over the Lions.

Nick Sirianni’s team needs Dan Campbell’s team to lose a game down the stretch.

Dallas is ahead of Detroit and Philadelphia based on conference record (7-3 to 6-3), and a Vikings win would do wonders for making it a simple race for the No. 2 seed.

Seattle currently sits at the No. 8 spot in the playoff race, and a win over the Titans coupled with a Vikings loss to the Lions would put the Seahawks in the driver seat for the No. 7 seed, and a potential wildcard weekend matchup against the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.

Seattle has shown the prowess to defeat Philadelphia on the road before, and they’ll have Geno Smith on the field down the stretch.

ROOT for Titans

CBS: Jaguars (8-6) vs. Buccaneers (7-7)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (6) runs the ball against the Tennessee Titans during the second quarter at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023.

Tampa Bay is 7-7 and currently locked into the No. 4 seed as the NFC South leaders. If the Buccaneers win out and the Eagles remain in the No. 5 seed, they’ll meet up at Raymond James Stadium.

FOX: Cowboys (10-4) vs. Dolphins (10-4)

Dallas is ahead of Philadelphia in the NFC East based on division record (4-1 to the Eagles’ 3-1), but this matchup is about overall record, and the Eagles can always benefit from the Cowboys dropping to 10-5.

Dallas still has a Week 17 matchup against the Lions, and a Dolphins win could help put the Eagles on a path towards the No. 2 overall seed, and a potential top seed if San Francisco drops a game down the stretch.

The 49ers are the No. 1 overall seed and have a monster matchup against the Ravens scheduled for Monday Night Football.

After this week, San Francisco will travel to Washington to face the Commanders, before finishing with the Rams at home.

Any hopes for a top seed would include a 49ers loss or two down the stretch and Baltimore securing a high-profile road win would do wonders for Philadelphia’s hopes.
