The 2023 NFL draft is complete, and as teams add undrafted free agents, the experts are looking ahead to the 2024 selection process.
Next spring will see guaranteed locks like Heisman Trophy Winner Caleb Williams (USC), Marvin Harrison Jr. (Ohio State), Drake Maye (UNC), Joe Alt (Notre Dame), Brock Bowers (UGA), and Olumuviwa Fashanu (Penn State) all battle to round out the top five.
With teams around the league praying to be on the clock, here’s an early 2024 NFL mock draft roundup.
CBS Sports -Round 1 - Pick 30 OL TENNESSEE • JR • 6'3" / 325 LB
CBS Sports has Roseman continuing to restock the trenches with an All-SEC performer.
Spraggins flashed last fall while we were watching Darnell Wright. If he can have a Wright-type leap over the summer, he could make his way into the top-50 conversation.
Warren Sharp --Cooper Beebe, OG, Kansas State
Ryan McCrystal of Warren Sharp Analysis has Philadelphia addressing the offensive line.
Beebe has started at left tackle and right tackle, but his production ascended to another level in 2022 when he shifted to left guard. He’s a good athlete for an interior lineman and played a vital role in the Wildcats’ run game.
Bleacher Report -- 29. Philadelphia Eagles: Johnny Wilson, WR, Florida State
Bleacher Report has the Eagles landing a big, physical wide receiver.
At 6’7″ and 235 pounds, Johnny Wilson from Florida State could easily fill that role. Last season was his first with the Seminoles after transferring from Arizona State, and he enjoyed a breakout campaign with 43 catches for 897 yards (20.9 yards per reception) and five touchdowns.
Wilson can make contested grabs and would be an excellent complement to Brown and Smith, especially in the red zone. In a way, he’s what Roseman was hoping J.J. Arcega-Whiteside would be.
Athlon Sports --Connor Colby | OL | Iowa
Luke Easterling has Philadelphia reloading in the trenches.
Depth along the offensive line is never a bad thing to have, and some shuffling might be in order next offseason if All-Pro center Jason Kielce finally retires. Colby is a massive guard with great size and strength, and drafting trench warriors from this program usually turns out well at the next level.
PFF --31. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: WR XAVIER WORTHY, TEXAS
With Quez Watkins set to be a free agent, Pro Football Focus has Philadelphia selecting a wide receiver.
It was a relatively down year for Worthy, whose 70.1 receiving grade in 2022 was more than 10 points lower than what he posted in 2021 as a true freshman. Despite seeing 10 more targets this past season, the sophomore recorded 224 fewer receiving yards and four fewer touchdowns than his dominant 2021 year.
He became much more of a downfield receiver this past season, with his average depth of target being 17.6 yards, which ranked seventh highest in the Power Five. That dwarfs his 13.4-yard figure from 2021, which was 69th in the same group. By making him more of a downfield threat, Texas took away one of Worthy’s best attributes: his ability after the catch. As a true freshman, Worthy’s 526 yards after the catch were the 10th most in the Power Five. He fell to 41st this year with only 324 yards after the catch.
24/7 Sports -31. Philadelphia Eagles - Bralen Trice, EDGE — Washington
24/7 Sports has Philadelphia nabbing an edge rusher.
The Eagles got their interior guy in Jalen Carter in this draft and needing to get younger on the EDGE as well with Brandon Graham reaching the twilight of his career, the Eagles go with a talented pass-rusher in Trice.
Sporting News -Sedrick Van Pran, C, Georgia (6-4, 310 pounds)
Sporting News has Philadelphia heading back to Athens for another Bulldog.
If the Eagles are fine with Cam Jurgens at guard to replace Isaac Seumalo, they should be thinking about 35-year-old Jason Kelce’s successor at center. Van Pran is a highly athletic anchor who doesn’t give up on his blocks. Plus, he’s a Bulldog, so that tracks.
Fox Sports --29. Philadelphia Eagles: Rara Thomas, WR, Georgia
Fox Sports jumped on the Georgia Bulldogs train, mocking wide receiver Rara Thomas to Philadelphia.
Rara started his career in Starkville with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Based on how Howie Roseman and the Eagles have drafted the past two years, is it as easy as simply projecting the best player from the University of Georgia here? Thomas began his college career at Mississippi State, grabbing 12 touchdowns over his first two seasons.
USA Today --29. Philadelphia Eagles – Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia
Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA Today has the Eagles going to Athens for another cornerback.
Easy to make the connection here. The 6-0, 180-pound cornerback looks to be the next Georgia defensive standout, and the Eagles have established their interest on that front by upping their tally of Bulldog defenders to five. Investing in a young cornerback might also be good long-term planning for the defending NFC champs given that starters Darius Slay and James Bradberry will be on the wrong side of 30 at the start of the season.
The Athletic -31. Philadelphia Eagles: D.J. James, CB, Auburn
Dane Brugler has the Eagles adding a cornerback from the SEC.
A former Oregon transfer, James was a pleasant surprise last season. He did a great job limiting big plays and will enter this season with an early-round projection.
