Eagles-Saints 2022: New Orleans to have a new head coach after Sean Payton retires

There were currently six openings for head coaching jobs in the NFL and one of the more intriguing jobs just became vacant after Sean Payton informed the New Orleans Saints that he’ll be stepping away.

Payton, who has three years left on his contract, has coached the Saints since 2006 and had not committed to returning to coach for another season in New Orleans.

Payton is expected to explore television opportunities amid his mini-retirement, where he can recharge and then resurface in 2023 for the job of his choice or potentially a much-hyped scenario where he joins the Cowboys.

Philadelphia was 4-6 against the Saints under Payton but had won the last two matchups with Jalen Hurts at quarterback.
