Eagles report card: Grading Philadelphia’s offense at the bye week

The Eagles have reached their bye week with an 8-1 record, the best in the NFL.

Philadelphia’s offense is among the top 3 in scoring offense, with the rushing and passing rankings landing in the middle of the pack.

With the team getting healthy before a massive rematch against the Chiefs in two weeks, we’re looking at grades for every position at the halfway point and after nine games.

The Eagles All-Pro quarterback has quickly gained ground after a slow start passing-wise, and he’s now 5th in the NFL with 2,347 passing yards.

Hurts has completed 68.9% of his passes, with 15 TDs, 8 INTs, a 97.0 Rating, 88 rushing attempts, 316 yards, and 7 TDs.

He’s played injured, he’s an MVP candidate, and his turnovers are the only thing preventing an A+.

Running Back -- B

The leader in the clubhouse is D’Andre Swift, with 135 attempts for 614 yards (4.5) and 3 TDs; Swift also has 30 catches for 166 yards and 1 TD.

Swift had back-to-back games with 175 and then 130 yards but hasn’t had a 100 yard game in six weeks, and his average has dropped almost 3 yards per carry over the span, while Jalen Hurts’ passing averages have ballooned. Kenny Gainwell has 54 carries for 175 yards (3.2), two touchdowns, and 15 catches for 74 yards.

A.J. Brown is the leader in the clubhouse with 67 catches on 92 targets for 1,005 yards, 6 TDs, and an almost 2,000-yard pace.

Brown’s streak of six straight 125+ yard games ended in Week 9, but no Eagles pass catcher in franchise history has reached 1,000 yards faster. DeVonta Smith hasn’t been as explosive, but he still has 42 catches for 533 yards and four touchdowns and is on pace for another 1,000-yard season. Olamide Zaccheaus has 87 yards, 58 of which came in Week 3 against the Bucs, while Julio Jones has a touchdown in two games.

Goedert’s quest for his first 1,000-yard season hit a severe snag; he suffered a fractured forearm, and it’s just another bit of frustration for a dynamic player trying to carve out his actual role. Goedert has 38 catches on 52 targets for 410 yards and 2 TDs and was just starting to rack up yards after the catch and a growing yards per-catch portfolio.

Jack Stoll will see his role increase, but he has just 2 catches for 10 yards. Without Goedert going forward, the Eagles could give Albert Okwuegbunam an extended look.

They haven’t been as dominant, and playing Sua Opeta instead of an injured Cam Jurgens caused a dropoff in rushing production, but it’s still the best unit in the NFL.
