West Coast's task of being competitive against Melbourne on Sunday has been made even tougher after Shannon Hurn and Andrew Gaff were ruled out through injury.

Hurn (calf) and Gaff (quad) picked up slight niggles at training this week, with the duo joining a lengthy injury list that includes Nic Naitanui, Dom Sheed, Elliot Yeo, Willie Rioli, Luke Shuey, and Oscar Allen.

The last-placed Eagles dropped former Tiger Patrick Naish for the daunting encounter against Melbourne, while COVID top-up players Jake Florenca and Declan Mountford won't be needed this week.

Greg Clark, Jackson Nelson and Alex Witherden have been selected after exiting the health and safety protocols, while ruckman Bailey Williams returns from a hamstring injury.

The Demons go in unchanged after ruckman Max Gawn's hurt knee was given the all clear.

Fremantle welcome back Blake Acres, Travis Colyer, Michael Frederick, Rory Lobb and Griffin Logue from protocols for Sunday's match against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.

Dockers forward Michael Walters (protocols), Nathan O'Driscoll (foot), and Sam Switkowski (concussion) were ruled out, while Brandon Walker, Liam Henry and Jye Amiss were dropped.

The Suns lost Jack Lukosius to a knee injury and Alex Davies is being managed.

Into the side come Joel Jeffrey and Noah Anderson.

GWS have axed forward Bobby Hill and ruckman Matt Flynn for Leon Cameron's final game in charge against Carlton on Sunday.

Matt de Boer and Conor Stone were included in the 22.

The Blues welcome back George Hewett (calf), Lachie Plowman and Brodie Kemp, while Jesse Motlop has been named for his AFL debut.
