Eagles GM Discusses Jalen Hurts’s Contract Talks

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has built one of the NFL’s most talented rosters, with its centerpiece being quarterback Jalen Hurts.

With the NFL’s free agency slated to begin on March 13, Roseman said that the organization intends to have its quarterback stick around.

“Obviously we want to keep our best players here for the long term,” Roseman said, per Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “And he's certainly one of our best players. So … we'll keep all the contract talks internal, but we'd definitely like to keep Jalen Hurts here long term.”

Hurts, who has one year remaining on his four-year rookie deal, is slated to earn a new deal that could pay out between $45 and $50 million per year. The contract would make Hurts one of the NFL’s highest paid quarterbacks and create another instance in which Philadelphia splurge on a signal caller, after signing Carson Wentz to a $128 million contract in 2019.

In three seasons in Philadelphia, the 2022 Pro Bowler has posted a 23–11 mark in the regular season in 34 starts while completing 648 of 1,040 passes for 7,906 yards and 44 touchdowns. In Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, Hurts put together a superb performance, throwing for 304 yards and one passing touchdown while rushing for three scores and totaling 70 yards on 15 carries.

Despite the loss to end the season, Hurts became the second quarterback in NFL history to win 14 regular season games before his 25th birthday.
