Eagles fans were thrilled by the Saints’ pathetic Thursday night showing because of their extra first-round pick

In more ways than one, it was a tough outing for the Saints on Thursday night. Where do I even start?

Was it when cameras captured the exact moment Andy Dalton’s heart broke after a pick-six in the first half? Was it when an unfortunate 42-34 loss was cemented, despite all of New Orleans’ valiant comeback efforts?

Sure, that would be easy to say. But after falling to 2-5, at least the Saints can start thinking of a high first-round draft pick that can bolster their future. Right? About that.

With the Eagles swinging a pre-2022 draft trade with New Orleans in April, Philadelphia actually owns the Saints’ first-round pick in the 2023 draft. And right now, that selection is slated to be … No. 4 overall. Oh no.

For what it’s worth, the Saints eventually parlayed that deal to get tackle Trevor Penning and perhaps one of the NFL’s best young receivers in Chris Olave, in one draft. But still — losing out on a potential top-five pick the following year amidst a needed rebuild isn’t ideal!

The rich get richer in Philadephia amidst a 6-0 start, while the Saints get salt rubbed into their Thursday night wound.

Eagles fans lived it up watching the Saints' lose, knowing they had another high first-rounder coming
