Eagles fail to clinch the NFC East, blow shot at No. 1 seed with 36-33 loss to Commanders in Week 16

With star quarterback Jalen Hurts concussed and C.J. Gardner-Johnson ejected, the Eagles could not overcome five Jayden Daniel’s touchdown passes and blew an opportunity to secure the second NFC East title in Nick Sirianni’s four years in Philadelphia.

Reed Blankenship intercepted Daniels with 3:06 remaining in the fourth quarter.  Philadelphia got the ball back and ran five plays, but a DeVonta Smith dropped pass stopped the clock with 1 58 remaining, as the Eagles were only able to take off 55 seconds of actual game time between the interception and field goal from Jake Elliott to put the Birds up 33-28.

Following the Elliott field goal, Washington went on a nine-play, 57-yard drive that took 1:52 seconds and ended with a nine-yard touchdown reception from Jamison Crowder.

Jayden Daniels was 24-39 passing for 257 yards (6.6 avg), five touchdowns, two interceptions and a 99.0 rating.

Philadelphia played without quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was forced to exit with a concussion in the first quarter. In relief of Hurts, Kenny Pickett was 14-24 passing for 143 yards (6.0 avg), one touchdown, and one interception, with a 72.0 rating.

Running back Saquon Barkley logged 150 yards (5.2 avg) on 29 carries and two touchdowns but only had 50 yards after logging 109 in the first half.

Daniels tormented the Eagles as a ball carrier, logging nine carries for 82 yards (9.1 avg), with a 29-yard carry being his longest on the day.

Philadelphia must now regroup and prepare for Dallas in Week 17 and the New York Giants in Week 18. To finish up, Washington will face the Falcons and Cowboys.
