Eagles-Commanders: Washington could begin full-scale rebuild with a loss to Philadelphia

The Eagles could drop the Commanders to 3-5 on Sunday and, in doing so, could start the process of new owner Josh Harris starting a full-scale rebuild that could begin with trading Montez Sweat or Chase Young.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Washington’s decision on whether to proceed with trading players or pushing for the playoffs could be significantly influenced by Sunday’s game outcome against 6-1 Philadelphia.

If the Commanders do end up trading away players, the focus will be on their defensive line, where Chase Young and Montez Sweat each are in the last year of their contracts, ready to become free agents.

Washington is not expected to be able to retain both pass-rushers, and at least one team already has inquired about Sweat, according to sources. The Commanders are proceeding patiently, waiting to see

Philadelphia won the first matchup 34-31 behind A.J. Brown’s nine catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns.
