Eagles CB Darius Slay praises Tom Brady but relishes crashing celebration

It wasn’t just New England Patriots fans that were energized by Tom Brady’s return to Gillette Stadium last Sunday. Even players on the Philadelphia Eagles had to tip their cap and marvel at the ceremony.

Eagles cornerback Darius Slay was extremely complimentary of the ceremony in his podcast earlier this week.

“It was a huge win in Foxboro,” said Slay, when appearing on the “Big Play Slay” podcast. “Tom Brady Day, came in there. I ain’t gonna lie, man, I got the chills, too, for him. Because watching him go out there, they did a little ceremony for him before the game. They had him ringing the bell, man. Hearing the crowd go crazy was, like, ‘Man, I got a great opportunity to play against this man so many times, and I got to witness him coming back home and watching this team, this organization, just show love.’

“I saw a lot of great Hall of Fame players out there. Darrelle Revis was out there. We got Malcolm Butler that was out there. … It was just crazy just seeing all the stuff going around. It was just an amazing feeling for me, as well. I soaked it all in. Just like, ‘Hey, this is Tom Brady’s ceremony. Like, I get to be a part of this — and I get to ruin it,’ because we came out with the dub.”

For his part, Slay had a big impact in the game as well. He had a pick-six interception that gave the Eagles an early lead. New England was able to bounce back and make things interesting, particularly in the second half. However, that was still not enough, as Philadelphia was able to win the game by a 25-20 margin.

Brady’s ceremony was perhaps the biggest highlight of the day. The energy in the stadium was palpable, and it certainly gave New England a boost at certain parts of the game. Truth be told, New England was close to winning the game itself but ultimately fell short on a potential game-winning drive in the end.

Slay has been complimentary of New England overall this week. Earlier in the week, he praised Patriots quarterback Mac Jones. It sounds as though he had a solid time in New England overall, especially since he got the last laugh with the victory.
