The Eagles have one of the youngest secondaries in the NFL and Darius Slay is now the leader after Rodney McLeod took his talents to Indianapolis.
Philadelphia started offseason workouts a week ago and as Eagles rookies prepare for their first minicamp, several veterans on the team are meeting with the media.
During his media session, Slay was asked about several topics, including the perceived void at safety, and which player could fill McLeod’s leadership space. Slay was quick to acknowledge Marcus Epps as the player to watch, saying “it’s his time.”
“For sure Marcus Epps. He got a lot of reps. He filled the role real good. He’s always been ready, always been waiting for his time to come. I’m looking forward to seeing what he do.”
Epps was originally selected by Minnesota in the sixth round (191st overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Epps was claimed off waivers by the Eagles from the Vikings in November of 2019, and he’s improved each year.
Epps has appeared in 45 games with Philadelphia, logging 112 total tackles, 9 passes defended, and 3 interceptions.
