Eagles announce 3 practice squad moves ahead of Week 8 matchup vs. Commanders

The Eagles announced three practice squad moves ahead of the Week 8 matchup against the Washington Commanders, signing linebacker Brandon Smith, and defensive tackle Noah Elliss.

Philadelphia released cornerback Tiawan Mullens, and also lost offensive guard Brett Toth to the Carolina Panthers practice squad.

The Eagles are riding a wave of emotion after acquiring safety Kevin Byard from the Titans for two late round 2024 draft picks, and safety Terrell Edmunds.

The younger brother of Eagles linebacker Christian Elliss, Noah Elliss has spent time on and off the Philadelphia practice squad.

Elliss spent Training Camp with the team and was placed on Injured Reserve following the preseason game against the Browns before being released. The 6-foot-4, 346-pound Elliss was originally signed by the Eagles as a rookie free agent in 2022 out of Idaho and spent the entirety of his first season on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.

The former Penn State linebacker was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.

In his rookie season, the 6-foot-3, 241-pound Smith appeared in 12 games, playing primarily on special teams. He finished the year with eight tackles after suffering a season-ending ankle injury.

Smith was waived by the Panthers this summer, and Philadelphia signed him to the practice squad on October 12 and he was released this past Friday.

The undrafted free agent was a late roster cut by the Chargers after Mullen had 11 tackles and two pass deflections in three games this summer. He led the game in tackles against the Rams in the preseason opener. Mullen also spent time on special teams.

Mullen was a standout defensive back at Indiana, being named a first-team All-American in 2020 and first-team All-Big Ten in 2021.

Looking for a chance to see game action, Toth agreed to join the Carolina Panthers active roster ahead of Week 8.

Toth has played in 17 career regular-season games, including 11 in the 2021 season with Philadelphia. A versatile lineman, Toth has seen snaps at center, right guard, right tackle, and even as a tight end.

The 6-foot-6, 304-pound Toth originally joined the Eagles as a rookie free agent in the 2019 season. A first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Toth received a waiver to pursue his NFL career while serving as an active-duty soldier. He worked as an instructor at Temple’s ROTC program in the offseason.
