EA Sports removes Russian teams from FIFA 22 game

EA Sports has announced that it has removed all Russian teams from its FIFA 22 video game. The move is in response to the Russians' invasion of Ukraine.

The brand has become the latest tech firm to take a public stand against Russia as the conflict continues, joining the likes of Apple, Google and a number of major Hollywood studios.

A statement tweeted by EA Sports this evening read: "EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine.

"In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports has initiated processes to remove the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from RA Sports FIFA products including: FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile, and FIFA Online. We're also actively evaluating related changes to other areas of our games.

"We will keep our communities up to date on any actions taken, and thank players for their patience as we work through these updates."

Elsewhere in football, Russian-Israeli billionaire Roman Abramovich announced his decision to sell Chelsea, with all net proceeds to go into a foundation to help victims of the war in Ukraine.
