EA Sports FC is set to be released later this year, but a recent increase in FIFA 23 content errors could potentially be a sign of what's to come in EA's new game.
For the first in 30 years, we won't be getting a new FIFA game after FIFA 23, at least not with the FIFA name. EA Sports and FIFA put an end to their partnership last year, with EA now moving forward with their own football game called EA Sports FC.
It looks like EA Sports FC will be the only football game released this year, despite FIFA confirming they will be making a game of its own, but it's highly doubtful FIFA 24 will be released based on a statement from FIFA president Gianni Infantino. This means that for now, EA FC 24 won't have competition, but with a new FIFA game on the horizon along with the anticipated releases of games like UFL, Goals and a potential resurrection of Konami's eFootball, the football gaming market could be booming soon.
It's expected that the majority of historical EA Sports FIFA players will make the smooth transition from FIFA 23 to EA Sports FC when the game is released, as they have done from one FIFA title to the next in the past. But, it's not been a great end to the FIFA 23 calendar for EA, with more mistakes than usual being made in the last few weeks, predominantly in the FIFA Ultimate Team game mode which has left a lot of FUT players frustrated.
From releasing Team of the Season (TOTS) squads two days early to taking weeks to hand out compensation that was promised to arrive in days, EA has come under fire from the FIFA community in the last few weeks. And, if these mistakes continue in EA Sports FC, don't be surprised to see players jump ship when competition arrives in the future.
Mistake after mistake – Could EA's errors cause its own downfall in the future?
When news broke of EA and FIFA going their separate ways, VGC reported that EA's CEO Tom Wilson claimed EA would be better off without FIFA, suggesting that the only value FIFA provided was “four letters on the front of the box”. FIFA hit back by claiming it will be launching its own football game, taking a dig at EA and stating "it is clear that this needs to be a space that is occupied by more than one party controlling all rights".
In recent years, EA's FIFA games have been slated by the FUT community for a number of issues, including gameplay, a lack of change each year and not listening to what the players want. Now with both companies playing the blame game, the release of EA Sports FC could answer the questions on everyone's lips. Is it EA or FIFA causing the problems?
EA has the opportunity to make EA Sports FC the football game. If the game is released with no errors, good gameplay and new features that the community has requested (crossplay on Pro Clubs, please), players will stay loyal to EA Sports FC, thinking it was FIFA that stopped these fantastic changes from being made over the last few years.
But, if the game comes out and it is a hot mess, with countless mistakes and errors being made, before you know it, players will start looking elsewhere when competitors release their game. The TOTS promo is currently underway in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team, and this is where there seems to be a new error every few days.
Frustratingly, most of them are very simple mistakes that could be avoided, with EA having to hand out compensation multiple times for failing to describe what will be inside a FUT Pack. The most recent mistake has seen EA hand out five 92+ TOTS Player Picks after not mentioning the Player Picks included in the TOTS Elite Pack were loan items.
EA has also handed out free Fantasy FUT Hero Player Picks after making the same mistake with another Pack, and they were also forced to hand out a free Community TOTS Pack after not mentioning the inclusion of TOTS Moments items in the Pack.
Players have also been left angered after EA made FIFA Points more expensive, a decision which hasn't gone down well in the FUT Community. The errors are constant, and if this continues into EA Sports FC, it might not work out well in the long term for EA.
