EA Sports drop Mason Greenwood from FIFA 22 video game after arrest on suspicion of rape

Video game publisher EA Sports have removed Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood from their FIFA 22 database after his arrest on suspicion of rape and assault.

The 20-year-old was taken into custody on Sunday following images and audio being uploaded onto social media of a woman, who appeared to have been bloodied and bruised.

Police were granted more time to detain Greenwood on Monday and he remained under questioning on Tuesday.

The forward, who has one cap for England, has since been removed from the FIFA video game, which released a database update on Tuesday.

Greenwood no longer appears inside Manchester United’s squads however his card remains active in the Ultimate Team mode of the game.

His club have suspended him from training and matches while the police carry out their inquiries. Nike have also suspended their sponsorship deal with Greenwood.

In statement on Sunday, United said: “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media. We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United do not condone violence of any kind.”

They later confirmed: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”
