EA's 'Skate' Is Not Getting an Offline Mode as Its Main Point Is to be a Multiplayer Sandbox

Electronic Arts' upcoming sports action title, "Skate," will not get an offline mode. The developer, Full Circle, and its publisher, EA, have recently confirmed this even as many people have been requesting it to be available.

Instead, the game will focus on being a massively multiplayer experience for users where they get to explore and interact with other players in-game.

EA's 'Skate' Is Not Getting an Offline Mode

The first post on EA and Full Circle's direct community platform, The Grind, has announced an important development for their upcoming sports game, "Skate," where both companies confirmed that it is not getting an offline mode.

The companies went on to say that an offline mode is not something that they envision for the game as they intend for it to evolve and grow as it progresses.

This means that players will need internet connection to play the game.

This means that EA and Full Circle are fully designating "Skate" as a live-service game, and this exact setup was already introduced to players who are part of the "Always-On Playtest" that started last year.

The game's playtest has since seen 200,000 players being invited to join this early access prototype, with as many as 30,000 posts appearing on their forums to share what it has to offer.

'Skate' Is Purely a Multiplayer Sandbox

The main focus of "Skate" is to offer an evolving experience for users, which is why EA and Full Circle have opted to stick with not sharing an offline mode to gamers.

"The game and city are designed to be a living, breathing massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox that is always online and always evolving," said EA.

According to the company, the new live-service skateboarding game will see a regular update which brings changes to the city, as well as the smaller aspects of the game. Moreover, EA and Full Circle said that they will also add other live experiences in "Skate" in the form of live events, in-game activities, and other experiences.
