E4 Married at First Sight UK viewers 'turn off' minutes into new series

Fans of the hit reality TV show Married at First Sight UK rejoiced as the new season kicked off on Monday night (August 29).

The E4 show introduced a new set of singles ready to get married to a stranger - but viewers were left "disappointed" just moments into the first episode.

16 new singletons were welcomed to the show for the 2022 series, prepared to wed someone they have never met before. This new series claims to be even bigger and more dramatic than ever before, with a new episode run-time of 30 minutes.

The couples, who have been paired with one another by Melanie Schilling, Paul C. Brunson and Charlene Douglas, will say their vows and get ready to commit for a lifetime at a lavish wedding ceremony, just moments after seeing each other for the first time.

Some of this year's hopefuls include 37-year-old Adrian, a digital designer from Manchester.

Also joining the lineup is 29-year-old social worker Chanita and dental hygienist Jess who is 31, Manchester Evening News reports.

During the 90-minute first episode of the season, viewers saw the brides and grooms come together for the first time ahead of dining out with their matches, causing instant drama.

Fans also got to see the first two weddings of the series with Duka and Whitney, and Chanita and Jordan.

Viewers were introduced to the 16 singletons on Monday night when the first episode of the new season aired (E4)

However, moments into the episode, viewers took to social media to complain about how much the TV show had changed over the years.

@EmmaJayneThomas tweeted: "Good grief enjoyed original format was interesting psychologically Now jazzed up and full of people wanting 5 minutes of social media fame. #MarriedAtFirstSight."

@Stephjohnston86 said: "#MarriedAtFirstSight what have you done you’ve taken a brilliant show and turned it into a fake reality TV mess. So disappointed."

@SharP_wisewords fumed: "#MarriedAtFirstSight Turned it off thought I was watching Made in Chelsea all teeth and boobs and no personality. Even more set up than last series."

But @JeffChangxa argued back, saying: "People complaining about how the cast aren’t bigger and uglier just turn off the TV and go stand in the mirror something, please just let us watch the show for what it is. It’s not everyday #MAFS #MAFSUK #MarriedAtFirstSight."

You can watch Married at First Sight UK every Monday - Thursday on E4 at 9pm.
