E4 Married at First Sight UK viewers 'turn off' amid complaints moments into new series

The eagerly awaited brand new series of Married at First Sight UK has officially arrived - but fans are already unhappy. The brand new run of the E4 show kicked off on Monday night (August 29) with fans being introduced to the new set of singletons preparing to wed a stranger.

The 2022 series welcomes 16 new singles preparing to say 'I do' to someone they've never met and it has previously been teased that it's set to be bigger and more dramatic than ever with more episodes of marital bliss or disharmony. Not only that, this time the show will have a longer run of 30 episodes.

The couples, who have been matched by experts Melanie Schilling, Paul C. Brunson and Charlene Douglas, will make a lifelong commitment to one another at a glamorous ceremony, overseen by a wedding celebrant, immediately after setting eyes on each other for the first time.

Among those taking part this year are Adrian, a 37-year-old Digital Designer from Manchester, Duka, a 31-year-old Recruitment HR Coordinator from Birmingham, Jess, a 31-year-old Dental Hygienist from Cambridgeshire, and Whitney, a 31-year-old PA from St Albans.

And during the first 90-minute episode of the series, viewers saw the brides and grooms separately come together for the first time ahead of dining out their matches with fireworks almost instantly. However, fans also got to see the first two weddings of the series with Duka and Whitney, and Chanita and Jordan.

But before the first episode had really got underway, some MAFS UK viewers flocked to social media to complain the show had changed too much over the years and that it was now a 'fake reality TV mess'.

@EmmaJayneThomas tweeted: "Good grief enjoyed original format was interesting psychologically Now jazzed up and full of people wanting 5 minutes of social media fame. #MarriedAtFirstSight." @Stephjohnston86 said: "#MarriedAtFirstSight what have you done you’ve taken a brilliant show and turned it into a fake reality TV mess. So disappointed."

@SharP_wisewords fumed: "#MarriedAtFirstSight Turned it off thought I was watching Made in Chelsea all teeth and boobs and no personality. Even more set up than last series." But @JeffChangxa argued back: "People complaining about how the cast aren’t bigger and uglier just turn off the TV and go stand in the mirror something, please just let us watch the show for what it is. It’s not everyday #MAFS #MAFSUK #MarriedAtFirstSight."
