A young man killed in a hit-and-run smash while riding an e-scooter has been named by police.
Joshim Uddin, 32, suffered serious injuries after being hit by a blue Kia in Manilla Street, Docklands around 5.40pm on Sunday.
Mr Uddin, from the Isle of Dogs, was taken to hospital but died just under three hours later. His family has been told.
The car involved failed to stop at the scene and was found nearby.
It wasn’t until Tuesday that detectives arrested the 42-year-old male driver on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He was bailed to return on a date in late August.
Detective Sergeant Mark Palmer, of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “If you were in the area at the time of the collision and have dash-cam please check your footage and share with us anything you find that might relate to this collision.
“We are still piecing together the circumstances surrounding the incident – if you can help us please do get in touch.”
According to figures from the Department for Transport, nine people were killed while riding e-scooters in 2021.
They included 16-year-old Junior Alexander, who died after he was hit by a drunk driver in Bromley, south-east London.
There were 1,280 collisions involving e-scooters last year, compared with 460 in 2020.
These involved 1,359 casualties, of whom 1,034 were scooter users.
