Dynamic Gymnastics Academy enjoy a merry month of May

Dynamic Gymnastics Academy enjoyed a successful month throughout May.

The Motherwell club had several gymnasts representing Scotland in various competitions.

At the Inter-Regional NDP Acrobatic competition in Southampton on May 4 and 5, Evie Wise, Sophie Blood and Bethany Carlyle took second place in the Youth section.

Deryn Zengin and Romia Lawlor were fourth in Grade 2 Women Pair; Lucia Lawlor, Milie Simmons and Amiya Dwornik were fifth in Grade 4 Women Group, and Keia Crawford, Lily McNab and Anna Cruickshanks finished sixth in Grade 3 Women Group.

Club spokesperson Suzy Cheng said: “This is the first time these girls have represented Scotland and have achieved a fabulous result.

“Coaches Lynsey Ritchie and Fraser Shepherd, along with the girls, have worked extremely hard throughout the year, and to finish off the competition year representing Scotland and getting the results they did was tremendous.

“Some of the girls will now look forward to the new season with new partnerships and new routines.”

At the Acrobatic NDP British finals in Stoke-On-Trent on May 18 and 19, Hayleigh Paterson and Gemma Russell took second place in IDP.

Emma Logan and Isla Russell were fifth in Grade 5 Women Pair, and Bethany Cruickshanks and Skye Wilkie were seventh in Grade 3 Women Pair.

Suzy added: “Our girls did amazingly well, competing against the best in Britain, and held their own.

“This was also the first time these gymnasts have represented Scotland, and did so fabulously.”

The Acrobatic English Championship on May 4 and 5 saw Karla Hillcoat, Sacha Horne and Arianna Lawlor take second place in 11-16 FIG.

Suzy said: “These girls competed as guests, which meant they did not get onto the podium to receive their medals.

“This trio, and another pair in Emma McConville and Emma McConnell, are trialling for the British team soon.

Another few gymnasts represented Scotland at the Artistic Compulsory British finals in Stoke-On-Trent on May 4.

Cara O’Donnell, Katie Dobson, Lisa McMonagle and Brooke Evans competed in Compulsory 3, while Alice Anderson took part in Compulsory 4.

Suzy said: “Coach Lauren Graham and the girls have been working extremely hard on their four-piece apparatus, and the girls had some good results, competing amongst the elite of artistic gymnasts.

“They have had great experience, which will help them in their future.”

The club’s final event was the National 4 British finals in Stoke-On-Trent on May 25, with Emillie Keenan and Abbie McGonigal taking part, despite travelling as reserves.

Suzy added: “Coach Gemma Archer is extremely proud of the way the girls performed at the competition.”
