Rangers are ready to make a six-figure move for St Mirren’s rising star Dylan Reid as the Ibrox club continue their bid to snap up some of the hottest young properties.
The Light Blues are keen to land the young midfielder who is also attracting major interest from Crystal Palace and Portuguese giants Benfica. St Mirren know they have top talent on their hands and are only likely to sell if they get a significant deal with future add-ons built-in.
Youth cap Reid - who made history as St Mirren's youngest debutant when he came on in a 3-0 defeat at Ibrox last year - was part of the Scotland team who played in the finals of the Euro under-17 Championships earlier this year. Rangers are keen to strike a deal with the Buddies that would see the 17-year-old go straight into their B team and the Lowland League action in the new season.
Rangers’ head of academy Craig Mulholland watched Reid and fellow youngster Murray Campbell as St Mirren lost to Northampton Town on Wednesday night. They are now ready to firm up their interest with an official approach to St Mirren. Rangers have already made a number of moves to buy up top talent from both sides of the border to beef up their B and under-age teams.
They have gone out and bought Bailey Rice from Motherwell, Lancelot Pollard from Aberdeen, Partick Thistle’s Cammy Cooper and Kieron Willox from Inverness. Rangers have also been active south of the border bringing in Zak Lovelace from Millwall, Everton’s Cameron Bell and Archie Stevens from AFC Wimbledon.
