Families are being warned to act now or risk losing more than £3,000 in their income. The deadline for renewing some benefits is at midnight on July 31 - Sunday.
Those who fail to compete their paperwork in time could have their payments stopped. And in today's cost of living crisis that is the last thing many families need.
The Birmingham Mail reports that the tax credit deadline for claims is at midnight today. With child tax credits and working tax credits worth more than £3,000 a year it is essential that families get their applications in.
HMRC says around 222,600 claimants are at risk of having their payments stopped. People should have received a renewal pack in the post explaining everything you need to know about renewing your Tax Credits and not everyone needs to take action.
If your renewal pack has a red line across the first page and says "reply now" then you will need to renew your tax credits. But if it has a black line and says "check now" you just need to check your details are correct.
HMRC director general for customer services Myrtle Lloyd said: "It’s great to see so many customers have already renewed their Tax Credits. I urge those who are yet to renew to do so as soon as possible, in order to avoid having their payments stopped."
You can renew over the phone by calling HMRC on 0345 300 3900. If you want to renew by post you need to fill in the forms in your renewal pack and send it to: Tax Credit Office, HM Revenue and Customs, BX9 1LR.
