The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have recently confirmed that approximately six million people in the UK will receive a one-off cost of living payment worth £150.
The extra financial boost will be paid into accounts automatically from Tuesday, September 20, reports the Daily Record. The "vast majority" of those who are eligible will receive the money by the beginning of October 2022.

In the DWP's latest update, a clearer indication has been made of who will be included in the claimants to receive the payment. The DWP said: "Those who had confirmed payment of their disability benefit for 25 May are expected to be paid shortly after the payment window opens.
“For those awaiting confirmation of their disability benefits on 25 May, or who are waiting to be assessed for eligibility to receive disability benefits, the process may take longer but payments will still be automatic.”
Commenting recently on the upcoming £150 payment, the former Minister for Disabled People, Chloe Smith, who is now the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in Liz Truss' Cabinet, said: “We know disabled people can face additional costs, which is why we are acting to help reduce the financial pressures on the most vulnerable.
“This £150 disability payment is on top of the £1,200 most low-income benefit claimants will also receive and alongside wider support targeted at disabled people, including help with transport and prescription costs.”
The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions also recommended that individuals check the Help for Households section of the GOV.UK website to make sure they get all the support that is available.
How will I know if I am due the £150 cost of living benefit?
You may get the one-off cost of living payment if you receive any award level for one of the following benefit schemes:
- Attendance Allowance
- Constant Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance for adults
- Disability Living Allowance for children
- Personal Independence Payment
- Adult Disability Payment
- Child Disability Payment
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
- War Pension Mobility Supplement
You must have received a payment (or later receive a payment) of one of these qualifying benefits for May 25, 2022 to get the £150 payment. If you get a qualifiying benefit from the Ministry of Defence (MOD), and disability benefits from DWP, you will get the payment from the DWP only.
The DWP also noted: "For those awaiting confirmation of their disability benefits on 25 May, or who are waiting to be assessed for eligibility to receive disability benefits, the process may take longer but payments will still be automatic.”
When will I be paid?
Payments will be made into accounts from Tuesday, September 20, 2022. The DWP said: "You’ll be paid the £150 Disability Cost of Living Payment automatically from 20 September 2022. Most people will receive their payment by the beginning of October 2022.
"Payments will be made to people who get a qualifying disability from DWP before payments to people who get a qualifying benefit from the Ministry of Defence."
This one-off payment is part of a £37 billion package of support from the UK Government, which will see households across the country receive at least £1,200 by the end of the year.
