DWP Personal Independence Payments (PIP) benefit rates for 2023-24

People who claim Personal Independence Payments (PIP) will get more money from next year after benefit rates are set to increase.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) announced that the majority of benefits in the UK will rise by 10.1 per cent next year - from April 2023. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt solidified the increase in his Autumn Statement at the beginning of the month.

Around three million Brits living with disabilities and mental health conditions currently receive PIP. Here's a breakdown of what they will receive in 2023/24, Birmingham Live reports.

How PIP works and what it is

As a disability benefit, PIP was initially introduced to replace Disability Living Allowance for many adult claimants. It helps support people who must live with long-term physical or mental health conditions and disabilities.

According to the DWP, there are two aspects to PIP: the daily living part and the mobility part. The daily living aspect helps claimants with the costs of carrying out everyday living tasks while the mobility aspect helps those who struggle to move around because of their condition.

Eligibility for PIP

You can claim for PIP if you're aged 16 and over, have a long-term physical or mental condition or disability, have difficulty performing everyday tasks as a result of your condition, and expect these difficulties to last for at least 12 months from when they started.

Any new PIP claimant will have to go through a DWP assessment so they can examine the effect your condition has on your everyday life. A score will be applied to applicants according to their ability to perform tasks which will then be used to determine how much money from PIP payments they get.
