The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed changes to payment dates for some benefits over new year. The department has said some regular payments including universal credit, PIP, and pensions will be different over the festive period due to the way Christmas and new year fall.
Because Christmas Day fell on a Sunday with Boxing Day on a Monday the Christmas Day bank holiday was changed to Tuesday, December 27. This meant changes to payment dates for some claimants over Christmas and the same will be the case over new year.

Which benefits are affected over new year?
The DWP benefits payments which will be affected over new year are:
- Attendance allowance
- Carer’s allowance
- Child benefit
- Disability living allowance
- Employment and support allowance
- Income support
- Jobseeker’s allowance
- Pension credit
- Personal independence payment
- State pension
- Universal credit
- Tax credits (such as working tax credit)
When will I get my money?
- All payments due on Monday, January 2, will be made on Friday, December 30
- All payments due on Tuesday, January 3, will be made as normal
Tax credits:
- Payments due on Monday, January 2, will be made on Friday, December 30
- Payments due on Tuesday, January 3, will be made on Friday, December 30
Minister for employment Guy Opperman MP said: “Our benefit system offers a vital safety net to millions of people and will continue to provide essential support over the festive period. We are bringing forward payment dates to ensure customers have their benefits in advance, taking account of the upcoming bank holidays.”
