The Department for Work and Pension (DWP) has confirmed people across the UK - including Glasgow - who are currently claiming Universal Credit will receive the 10.1 per cent uprating in benefit payments from Tuesday (May 16).
State Pension and other benefits increased last month on April 10 as part of the annual uprating exercise. However because of payments made in arrears, the new rates will not land in accounts until this month.
Minister for Employment Guy Opperman MP, was asked by Labour MP Dame Nia Griffith whether the uprating “was paid to claimants in their April benefit payment”.

In a written response earlier this week, according to the Daily Record, he explained: “Increases in Universal Credit come into force from the start of the first assessment period beginning on or after the first Monday of the tax year.
“As Universal Credit is a calendar monthly assessed benefit that is paid monthly in arrears, a claimant will receive their uprated benefit award in payments due from 16 May.”
