Some UK households may be eligible for a weekly reduction on their energy bills if the cold weather continues.
Much of the country has been hit by snow and ice this week, after a number of severe cold weather warnings.
Snow started to fall on Liverpool on Wednesday, March 8, as forecasters predicted with the first bit of snow fall recorded at around 1pm. There is a yellow snow warning in place today (Thursday, March 9) and Friday, March 9.

Heavy snow and travel disruption is expected across central and northern England today (Thursday), after sub-zero temperatures across parts of the UK through the first half of this week.
If the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days you'll get a Cold Weather Payment.
You’ll get £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather between November 1 and March 31. Using the Government postcode checker, you can see if a payment is due in your area.
You may get Cold Weather Payments if you’re getting:
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Universal Credit
- Support for Mortgage Interest
You do not need to apply. If you’re eligible to get a Cold Weather Payment, you’ll be paid it automatically. The Cold Weather Payment scheme runs from November 1 and March 31.
