DWP Cold Weather Payment checker: Postcode, eligibility and date of pay

Some households may be eligible for a weekly reduction on their energy bills if the cold weather continues.

Forecasters have said this week's cold weather will linger through to the weekend. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning across the UK for ice as temperatures plummet.

Forecasters said the warning will remain in place until Thursday lunchtime but the cold weather will not begin to shift until early next week.

If the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over seven consecutive days you'll get a Cold Weather Payment.

You’ll get £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather between November 1 and March 31. Using the Government postcode checker, you can see if a payment is due in your area.

You may get Cold Weather Payments if you’re getting:

  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit
  • Support for Mortgage Interest

You do not need to apply. If you’re eligible to get a Cold Weather Payment, you’ll be paid it automatically. The Cold Weather Payment scheme runs from November 1 and March 31.
