The festive season is just around the corner - believe it or not! And that means that there are some changes to the upcoming benefit payments.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has revealed the payment dates over Christmas and New Year, with millions across the country impacted. Scheduled payments may differ through the end of December and into January, but claimants will still receive their cash either on time or a little early.
For example, if your payment is due on a bank holiday such as Boxing Day this year, you will be paid on the working day prior to December 26. However, there are some exceptions and it is important to be in the know.

Here are all the key dates for your diary.
What payment dates will change?
- December 26 (Will be paid on December 23)
- December 27 (Will be paid on December 23)
- January 2, 2023 (Will be paid on December 30, 2022)
- January 3, 2023 (Will be paid on December 30, 2022)
Child Benefit
Child Benefit is generally paid every four weeks on either a Monday or Tuesday. However, this changes if the due date falls on a bank holiday. The benefit is then paid early - which will be the case this festive period.
Tax Credits
Tax Credits will also usually be paid four weekly - unless you have stated you would rather be paid each week on your claim form.
If your payment is due on a bank holiday then it will likely be paid early.
Other Benefits
If your benefit payment date is due on a weekend or bank holiday then you will likely be paid on the prior working day. You can check when your due date by noting when you were last paid and comparing it to the following periods provided by the DWP down below:
- Attendance Allowance: Usually paid every four weeks
- Carer's Allowance: Usually paid weekly in advance or every four weeks
- Disability Living Allowance: Usually paid every four weeks
- Employment and Support Allowance (ESA): Usually paid every two weeks
- Income Support: Usually paid every two weeks
- Jobseeker's Allowance: Usually paid every two weeks
- Pension Credit: Usually paid every four weeks
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP): Usually paid every four weeks
- State Pension: Usually paid every four weeks
- Universal Credit: Roughly paid every month
