Dwight Yorke's brother found dead aged 54 as ex-Man Utd star in mourning

The brother of former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke has been found dead at the age of 54 in his native Tobago.

Garth Yorke, Dwight ’s older brother was found by their older brother and former Trinidad and Tobago international cricketer Clint Yorke in Tobago at 7:45am on Tuesday morning.

Police said the body showed no marks of violence, adding the social worker and father of one is feared to have taken his own life. Neighbours are said to have described Garth as “quiet, helpful and jovial” adding: “You never really know what people are going through. The area’s shocked.”

Garth’s brother Dwight spent the vast majority of his professional career playing in England’s top-flight. Between 1990 and 2009, Yorke played 427 games in England’s top-flight and score 141 league goals during spells with Aston Villa, Man United, Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland.

He was also part of United’s famous treble winning season in the 1998/99 campaign, with Yorke scoring 29 goals in all competitions as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same campaign.

At the start of this month, Yorke became the manager of A-League side Macarthur FC. He linked up with his former club recently on their pre-season tour of Australia, giving his verdict on the current side to the club's media channels.

Yorke admitted he is a huge fan of striker Marcus Rashford, who has scored twice in as many games during pre-season as he looks to re-discover his best form ahead of the new campaign.

"I’m a huge fan. I spent some time around the club and watched training very close. Marcus, for me, is one of the best players at Manchester United," Yorke told the club’s official website.

"As a coach now, a head coach, I’d be saying to him he will be playing. I remember my time at Aston Villa, when Brian Little came in. I was around 24 and he put his arm around me and said: 'Listen, you are my guy, my go-to guy.'"

Yorke added: "When I look at what Rashford brings to the team, he’s a local lad for starters and has been at the club ever since [he was a kid]. He is very passionate about the club."

United have so far played three pre-season friendlies and been successful in all three of their friendlies, beating Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace.

They next take on another of Yorke's former sides in Aston Villa during a pre-season clash in Perth, Australia on Saturday morning.
